President Blog

Dear Uptowners

It is my pleasure to address you again after the third quarter of the current year. We have had an interesting quarter starting with a successful official visit of the D.G. Dr Anil Parmar and his wife Dr (Mrs.) Hema Parmar. They were happy to see the camaraderie amongst the club members and praised the work being done by the club. He made an appeal for increase in donations to the Rotary Foundation so we can do bigger and better projects as a district.

Our Board of Directors have been very active and have met monthly in member’s houses and planned projects for the club to execute as a result we have already achieved 21of the 25 goals we had set for our selves in the year and are now eligible for RI citation for the year.

We have done some interesting projects covering different avenues of Rotary. These have ranged from protecting the environment by setting up Niramalya collection centers to increasing awareness about minimizing the use of plastics. We have distributed cloth bags to vendors in the city. Supporting of basic education has been done by providing an ‘E’ learning kit to Nutan Bal Vikas Mandir School and providing shoes to the children of the school at Ad hale Khurd, Maval. For Peace and Conflict, we worked with the Consumer court Pune and settled conflicts without legal battles.

Being a doctor working for health has been a focus area. We completed 3 doses of Hepatitis Vaccination, participated in “Nidaan”- the district Diabetes detection camp and organized our own camp for non-communicable diseases. Eye checkups have been completed in several schools and where required spectacles distributed under the “Gift of sight” project. Reusable sanitary napkins were distributed among the women in Mulkhed

Biogas plants have been set up in Mulkhed village along with high masts under the ongoing CSR project

We participated in” Mamta” the Baby warmer global grant of the district and directly contributed 2 of the 110 baby warmers. Another two Global grants where we are a participating club were approved in this quarter.

One is “Anubandh” where RC Metro is the lead club and we will be doing Cancer surveillance and treatment. This has been supported by Rotarians Pradeep Kulkarni, Smita Bhide , Mukund Lonkar, Jayshree Panjikar, Santosh Moghe and myself. The second is with  RC Parvati which will address preventable blindness in Diabetics. Here our senior Rotarian A.V. Shenoy has contributed substantially in memory of his wife Maya. The club is grateful to him for his support.

The quarter has not been all work, we have had our fun activities. The AGM was followed by the Koja Giri dinner and a gazal programme. We had a nice bonding club picnic to Bhigwan where we all enjoyed photographing the Flamingoes. We had a special get together for the ladies on Women’s Day and had a workshop on making soap, face masks etc. The District conference “JOSH” was attended by four club members at AAmby Valley. It was good fun, well organized and there were good speakers which made the activity fruitful.

This quarter we have started a new Interact club at Modern High School, Shivaji Nagar. Even before having a formal installation, we could send the students for an elocution competition and for the Interact conference on the Metro.

We won an award during the public image seminar “Pehchaan”.

Our fortnightly meetings have been conducted regularly. The club has also had speakers speaking on diverse topics ranging from Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, Clair-audiencia, to Visual and Back Defects.

This issue will be released during our Vocational awards ceremony. When ae are giving three other awards also. Our Chirag award, Dr Sunalini Sattur award to a teacher of excellence and an additional award this year to a women Achiever who started her education on a Lila Poonawalla Grant and achieved laurels in her career subsequently.

I hope you enjoyed activities of the club in this quarter and look forward to suggestions from all of you on how we can help in the betterment of our communities

All the best to you and your families
